I support love, not hate. But unfortunately, for me (and probably others like me), it is not safe for me to walk around with a safety pin attached to my clothing. You see, I have spent the past year fighting hard to stay clean from self-injury. There was a time, not too long ago, when I would dig a safety pin across my arm over and over just to numb the pain. Several, several months ago, I got rid of the tools that I regularly used to hurt myself. Bringing them back into my life, even to show my support for nonviolence and love, is not a good idea. That would not be showing myself compassion. So please know that not everyone who isn’t wearing a safety pin, thinks that immigrants should be deported. Some of us are just trying to keep ourselves safe.
